Wye Island
Wye Island
Wye Island, located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, is a nature preserve that highlights the beauty of the region's wetlands and woodlands. Nestled in the tidal recesses of the Chesapeake Bay, the small island lies between the Wye River and the Wye East River.
I found myself captivated by the Osage orange trees that line the Ferry Point Trail, their twisting, thorn-covered branches forming a canopy above. At the trail's end lies a sandy beach called Drum Point, which once served as a ferry landing. Just an hour's drive from my home, I was drawn back time and again to capture the trees' unique beauty, continually discovering new perspectives to photograph. Each visit offered a chance for exploration and reflection.
Eventually, my curiosity extended beyond the trees, drawing my attention to the ground beneath my feet. I noticed delicate traces in the sand left by the ebb and flow of the tide, calligraphic poetry waiting to be interpreted. I encountered leaves and twigs arranged in cryptic patterns and fleeting shadows that hinted at timeless tales waiting to be told. When I took a moment to slow down and observe with intention, I started to feel a deeper connection to my surroundings. It was this sense of place, which I sought to convey through my images.
